Review By: Mike Thompson
- Words escape me ... ecstasy

I’ve had a friend’s copy of Scarface on VHS for a long time now and have just told him that I can’t find it so I can hold onto it just a couple more weeks. But the wish of so many has finally come true. One of the masterpieces of cinematography has now become available for you to own! Scarface on DVD, digitally remastered, 5.1 Dolby® Digital Surround Sound, and an extra disc full of special features! There is only one thing you can say… "Thank you God!"

For those of you who haven’t witnessed the work of genius directed by Brian De Palma (Carlito’s Way, The Untouchables), and written by Oliver Stone (Platoon), and not to mention, an astonishing performance by Al Pacino; Scarface is about a Cuban refugee who wants world and doesn’t stop until he gets it. Al Pacino plays Antonio (Tony) Montana, a man who was shipped over when Fidel Castro does a sort of "cleansing" throughout his communist country. Montana is extraordinarily happy to be out of Cuba but now that he’s in America he wants what everyone else in the United States does…money. He and his friend Manny (Stephen Bauer) automatically get involved in some work to pick up some drugs from a Columbian guy. Everything goes wrong but Montana proves himself to be crazy enough to do anything when he comes back with the drugs and the money (and says that it was just fun). So Montana becomes his boss’s first hand man to keep him safe and watch his back. He is then sent to Columbia to protect the negotiator for buying some more drugs. The Columbian drug lord then takes a liking to Tony and wants him to work for him. The film then goes on to show the great rise in success and the slow winding road to failure as well.

Scarface shows the rise and fall of Tony Montana, somewhat realistically (we think), and all of the pros and cons of being a rich and powerful drug dealer who is in control of more than anyone can imagine. Everyone should at least see this movie, if not own it. If you have seen it, then you know to go buy it right away; if you haven’t and aren’t sure about the film... rent it, watch it, buy it, love it.
