Dynamic Television to Develop Spy Series ‘Cipher’ for NBC – Variety

L.A.-based Dynamic Television has come on board to develop “Cipher,” a spy-action drama series pilot, for NBC.

The hourlong series is written and executive produced by Alanna Thompson, with Philip Levens (“Smallville”) set to showrun and executive produce. “Cipher” revolves around a secret intelligence agency called Red Division that enlists the help of a dysfunctional ex-con to stop an imminent global threat.

“’Cipher’ really captivated us and we wanted to make certain the show found the right home,” said Hines, senior VP of original content for Dynamic, who is executive-producing the show with Daniel March. He added that NBC’s “long-standing commitment to smart and original drama series was a natural fit for us.”

Thompson, who previously developed the comedy “The Day I Turned Uncool” with Lauren Miller Rogan for NBC, is repped by ICM Partners and 3 Arts Entertainment. Levens, who created the miniseries “Ascension” for SYFY, is represented by RMG and Paradigm Talent Agency.

Some of Dynamic Television’s credits include “Madiba,” a six-part miniseries starring Laurence Fishburne; “Trapped,” a critically acclaimed Icelandic crime drama from Baltasar Kormakur; and “Van Helsing,” created by Neil LaBute.
