‘Paterno,’ ‘The Post’ and the 15 best journalism movies

Movies about journalism are much like the news-gathering process: imperfect, romanticized and with an ending that leads to a new beginning.

“All the President’s Men,” the 1976 movie about how the work of Washington Post reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward forced President Richard Nixon to resign, ends with a typewriter banging out another story.

“The Paper,” a 1994 slapstick comedy about the personalities and problems in newsrooms – and the people who love them, ends with an exclusive story that will lead to a follow-up story.

“Spotlight,” the 2015 film about the Boston Globe’s investigation into the sex abuse scandal hidden by the Catholic church, ends with ringing phones and more news tips.

Those three movies glamorize the best of journalism, working at all costs to give the public the truth it deserves.
