DPS collecting musical instruments to revive music education

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton Public Schools is looking for your old musical instruments. DPS, Discover Classical 88.1 and 89.9 FM stations, Grismer Tire and Auto, the Dayton Public Schools Foundation and the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteers Association are collaborating for a musical instrument drive.

“One of the best things we can do is inspire that next generation of music lovers,” said Shaun Yu, the president and CEO of Dayton Public Radio. “The best way to deepen that love of music is to actually make it.”

The groups are collecting new and used instruments in all conditions at Miami Valley Grismer Tire and Auto locations until July 31st.

Yu explained the donated instruments in good enough condition will go directly to students in the DPS music programs. Salvageable instruments will receive a tune-up before they go to the schools and unplayable donations will go to art programs for other uses.

“The best thing an instrument can do is be played,” said Yu.
