America’s Public Television Stations elect board leaders, members

America’s Public Television Stations (APTS) recently announced the election of its new board leaders and members, including New Mexico PBS General Manager CEO Franz Joachim, who was elected as a trustee.

The newly-elected trustees are: Carolyn Edwards, Lay trustee, Vegas PBS in Las Vegas, Nev.; Susi Elkins, director of Broadcasting general manager of WKAR Public Media at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich.; Franz Joachim, General Manager CEO of New Mexico PBS, Albuquerque; Garrett T. King, III, board chair of Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA); Vickie Lawson, president CEO of East Tennessee PBS in Knoxville, Tenn.; and David Steward II, board chair of Nine Network of Public Media in St. Louis, Mo.,. Newly-elected as an at-large trustee to the APTS board is Larry D. Unger, president CEO of Maryland Public Television.

Newly-elected trustees begin their terms on Monday, Feb. 25.

Joachim has been involved in television production since he was a high school student in Tucson, Ariz. Joachim graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Radio-Television and a minor in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics. While there, he worked for KUAT-TV (PBS), first on its student production crew and then as studio supervisor.

He has worked in television production for 35 years as a photographer, editor, director and manager in a variety of production environments, including industrial, news, studio and long form documentary production.

In 2010, Joachim was promoted to director of Content for New Mexico PBS/KNME KNMD overseeing the scheduling, production, promotion and distribution of content on-air and online. In 2013, Joachim was appointed general manager CEO of New Mexico PBS.

Previously, Joachim was also designated as a National Association of Broadcasters’ DTV spokesman for New Mexico
