New movies: Aliens, ailing teenagers in love, Nancy Drew and ‘The Sandlot’

‘Captive State’ 

Short version: Nearly a decade after extraterrestrials take over, a Chicago neighborhood’s residents wrestle over choosing sides. Directed by Rupert Wyatt (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”), this sci-fi thriller stars Ashton Sanders, John Goodman, Jonathan Majors, rapper Machine Gun Kelly and Vera Farmiga. 

Rating/running time: PG-13, for violence, some sexual content, brief language and drug material; 109 minutes.

‘Five Feet Apart’ 

Short version: A pair of teenagers (Haley Lu Richardson, Cole Sprouse), both with cystic fibrosis, make an instant connection, but the distance their condition requires them to keep between them poses a challenge, and a danger. 

Rating/running time: PG-13, for thematic elements and language; 120 minutes.
