Movie Review: Near the conclusion of “Avengers: Infinity War,” SHIELD Director Nick Fury, played by Samuel Jackson, takes out a modified pager. The device had the emblem of superheroine Captain Marvel. This Marvel Universe addition agreeably details the history of the powerful woman.

On a 1990s Earth, Vers (Larson), a.k.a. Carol Danvers, is a soldier for the Kree Empire. Vers tracks a race of green shapeshifters called Skrulls to Earth. While she is hunting them, she encounters Agent Nick Fury (Jackson), and Vers remembers her past as Carol Danvers.

Together, they work as a reluctant team to find and eliminate the Skulls, who are led by Talos (Mendelsohn). Meanwhile, a Kree commander, Yon-Rogg (Law) arrives on Earth to exterminate the Skull infestation.

Earth is in the middle of an intergalactic war between the Kree and Skrulls. Vers becomes Captain Marvel to help save Earth from space invaders.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe expands with this tale of Captain Marvel. Although the movie varies in multiple ways from the comics, it is solid entertainment and develops its characters in a dramatic manner with plenty of comedy, too. Both give audiences solid entertainment.

Bree Larson and Samuel L. Jackson are the new dynamic duo. Think of them as “Odd Couple” meets superheroes Batman and Robin. Larson is marvelous as Captain Marvel, and modern visual effects turn Jackson into a youthful agent with style. They and the rest of the cast are engaging. They are a part of an amusing addition to the Marvel Universe.

Grade: B (It is marvelous enough to see.)
