Writers, lectures, art and live music highlight local entertainment scene

Gabaldon at the Palace:

Tryon Palace will host two events featuring Diana Gabaldon, bestselling author of the “Outlander” book series, April 26 and 27 at Tryon Palace.

“An Evening with Diana Gabaldon” is April 26, featuring an exclusive cocktail hour in the historic Commission House and formal dinner on the South Lawn, as well as remarks from Gabaldon.

At 5 p.m., mingle with Gabaldon and VIP guests, limited to 75 ticket holders. Dinner on the South Lawn is at 6 p.m., with an Outlander-inspired meal and remarks from Gabaldon.

“A QA with Diana Gabaldon” is April 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn about her writing process, research, and how she chose to include Tryon Palace in her bestselling novels. Gabaldon will answer visitor questions while time permits. This event does not include autograph, photo or book signing opportunities.

The Cocktail Hour is $450, Premiere Dinner Experience is $300, and Dinner is $200.

Tickets are $35 for the April 27 question and answer session for tent seating and $25 for lawn seating.

Farmers Market:

The New Bern Farmers Market, 421 S. Front St., is open each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It always offers locally home-grown and hand-made products.

“Happy Easter!” is the theme this week, including Stacy Dover-Chainsaw Carving.

SpringFest is on tap until 4 p.m. on April 27, with face-painting, gem mining, grits-grinding, Ve2g2Bowl Food Truck, old firetruck 33, and the Trent Woods Garden Club Herb Sale.

May 4 will feature warm-weather vegetables, local farm-raised meats, eggs and honey, along with local artists, authors and craftsmen.

Blackbeard’s entertainment:

Blackbeard’s Triple Play on South Front Street in New Bern has a variety of free entertainment each week.
