Crossgates entertainment venue closing; new one familiar to Destiny USA opening

Albany, N.Y. — The Lucky Strike Social location at Crossgates Mall near Albany is closing soon, but it’ll be replaced by another entertainment tenant that already has a spot at Destiny USA in Syracuse.

Lucky Strike, an entertainment venue featuring bowling, concerts and a bar and grill, will close later this month, according to the Times Union in Albany. As a result, 65 employees will lose their jobs, the paper said.

Apex Entertainment will take over the Lucky Strike space, according to the Albany Business Review. The chain got its start in Massachusetts and opened its second location at Destiny in February.

At Destiny, Apex features bowling, virtual reality simulators, laser tag, an arcade, bumper cars, shuffle board and more. The venue also has a full-service kitchen offering American-style cuisine, including burgers, sandwiches and appetizers.

Destiny and Crossgates are both owned by Syracuse-based Pyramid Management Group. Like other Pyramid properties, both have been trying to diversify their tenant mix to add more entertainment and dining options.

The efforts have met with varying degrees of success.

Some venues, like WonderWorks and 5 Wits in Syracuse, have shown solid staying power. Others, like Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar Grill, have collapsed in spectacular fashion.

The spot at Destiny now occupied by Apex was previously home to other similar venues, including Revolutions and All-Star Alley
