Huge New Details On ‘The Walking Dead’ Rick Grimes Movie Emerge, Which Will Be A Theatrical Release

AMC showed off not only the season 10 trailer for The Walking Dead yesterday at SDCC (Michonne kissing Ezekiel whaaaa?), but they also debuted a teaser, and I do mean teaser, for the upcoming Walking Dead feature-length movie that will mark the return of Rick Grimes.

The movie doesn’t even have a name yet, but the teaser exists to show that yes, this project really does exist, and that it’s going to play out a bit differently than we thought.

The last rumblings we were hearing about these Rick Grimes spin-off movies, the thought was that there would be three in total and they would probably just end up airing on AMC, serving as big-budget, double/triple episodes every year or so.

But now, this teaser makes a big point of revealing that The Untitled Walking Dead Rick Grimes Movie Project will be only in theaters, which is kind of a big deal.

I am…kind of unsure how to feel about this. I can’t recall the last time we saw not just a movie spawned from a TV show in theaters, but one that was actually a spin-off for a show that was still actively on the air. And it’s even weirder, because it stars the main lead of the original show that will never return to the series.

Also at SDCC, Danai Gurira revealed that yes, this was her last season on the show as Michonne, but she too is expected to star with Andrew Lincoln in this movie, and a theatrical release does seem to fit her role as a newfound A-lister in the wake of Black Panther and The Avengers.
