3 Things We Learned About the New Resident Evil Movie

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter came out in 2016, so that’s it for Resident Evil movies, right? Not so fast. Milla Jovovich may be done with Resident Evil but you can’t keep a good franchise down. Sony is developing a new Resident Evil movie with director Johannes Roberts. Roberts directed both 47 Meters Down movies and the sequel The Strangers: Prey at Night. Whether humans or sharks, Roberts is an expert at villains stalking victims, so zombies should be no problem for him.

Roberts spoke with Showbiz Cheat Sheet about his sequel 47 Meters Down: Uncaged this weekend, so we had a chance to ask him about his Resident Evil reboot. Here are three things we learned from Roberts, and if you want to see who’s in charge of Resident Evil now, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is in theaters.

Johannes Roberts is almost ready to shoot ‘Resident Evil’

The first Resident Evil film came out in 2002. After that, sequels came out fairly regularly every two or three years. The longest gap was the four years between Resident Evil: Retribution and The Final Chapter. It’ll be four years again in 2020, but Roberts is almost ready to do.

“I’m in prep on Resident Evil at the moment so we’re developing that and hopefully we’ll start shooting that soon enough,” Roberts confirmed. “So that’s really the next project for me.”
