Palace to show ‘The Lion King’ this weekend

MARION – Disney’s “The Lion King” will be shown this weekend at the Marion Palace Theatre.

The 2019 live-action film features celebrity voices: Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.

The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and three times on Saturday: 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A sensory-friendly viewing with open captions will be shown on Saturday morning.

Movie admission prices are $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2019-2020 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card. For tickets, call the box office at 740-383-2101 or visit

Blues BBQ returns Saturday

MARION – Music and barbecued food will fill downtown Marion Saturday for the fourth annual Blues BBQ Festival. The event will take place from noon to 10 p.m. downtown.

Presented by TruBlues975 and Marion Makes Music, the festival will be on Main Street, between Church and Center streets. Main stage entertainment can be found at Founder’s Park. The festival has free admission.

The schedule of entertainment includes Instinct Blues Band at noon; The Cold Stares at 1:45 p.m.; Cenral Blues Company at 3:30 p.m.; Dock Adams and Blues Hammer at 5:15 p.m.; and The Jimi Vincent Band at 7 p.m.

The festival will also feature inflatables for kids, craft vendors and more.

The Guild plans Zentangle candle workshop

MARION – A class on creating a Zentangle-inspired candle will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 24 at The Guild, 146 W. Center St.

The class is limited to 10 participants and cost is $35. To register, call 740-382-6875.
