7 cool movies that were just filmed — or are about to be — in Indianapolis and Indiana


Indiana towns, fictional and real, have been the setting for many famous movies. Here are seven classics you need to see.


Seeing your favorite Hoosier haunts on the big screen never gets old. Thankfully, Indiana filmmakers are creative and willing to make that happen.

You might recognize the scenery and some iconic Indiana landmarks — West Baden Springs Hotel atrium, anyone? — in this list of seven cool movies that local and national filmmakers are working on right now.

‘So Cold the River’

Here are the ingredients that make this exciting: a New York Times-bestselling author and the famous West Baden Springs Hotel. The former is “So Cold the River” by Michael Koryta, an Indiana University alum. The latter is the gorgeous setting for the supernatural thriller, where the glamorous once convened and where a documentary filmmaker finds horrific evil when he digs up the life story of a mysterious dying billionaire.

In real life, the West Baden was known for its healing mineral water and eight hidden painted angels. It closed as a hotel in 1932 and served in a few capacities before falling into disrepair. In 2007, it reopened after multimillion-dollar renovations.
