Television viewers who use antenna need to ‘rescan’ for local channels

Starting March 25, anyone in Michigan who uses an antenna to watch broadcast television needs to ‘re-scan’ their channels or risk starting to lose them.

According to Lori Guyton of TVAnswers.org, about a third of television viewers in Michigan still watch TV under that format.

Viewers who receive free, over-the-air local TV will need to rescan their TV to continue receiving those local channels, including emergency and weather alerts.

According to the National Association of Broadcasters, TV rescans are free and simple.

In order to perform the scan using the TV remote, select Scan or Autotune from the TV or converter box control menu to start the scanning process. The TV will do the rest itself.

For more information or help with the process go to TVAnswers.org.

The FCC is requiring the rescan because TV stations are changing frequencies in order to provide more channels for wireless broadband services.
