Live Local: Haunted Books at East Biloxi Public Library

Today we visit the Biloxi Library on Howard Avenue where they have plenty of spooky stories.

In a glass display sits nine reportedly haunted books from the 1840s. Biloxi Library Historian Jane Shambra said, “About six years ago a gentleman came into the library and said I have a donation. If you want it you might want to think about it. He came and talked to me and told me this story.”

The books were found in the Father Ryan House. He and his family would move around with the books and he claimed a ghost with long hair and a flowing gown would visit them. “We had the option of not taking them, but it was just the coolest story ever and it’s probably one of the oldest things in our collection as well.”

No one was seen the book ghost since they arrived. “Why haven’t we seen ghosts? I don’t know. Maybe it’s because she’s content that her books are in a library which is the perfect place to put her things.”

Yet some still believe that they’re haunted especially after a paranormal team visited the library and Shambra asked an investigator to validate their credibility. “Can you tell me where they are at least and when she pointed to the shelves above where the books are.”
