The Shoppes at Parma announces new Walls of Books location

PARMA, Ohio — Despite the fact that both avid and casual readers have access to every title online, nothing compares to the tactile experience — not to mention the smell — of perusing books.

That’s exactly what national retailer Walls of Books has planned for its first Buckeye State location, set to open this summer at The Shoppes at Parma.

“One of the first things the mayor told us Parma wishes they had was a nice bookstore, so we’re doing that in partnership with a franchise called Walls of Books,” said David Mott, vice president of Allied Development, which owns The Shoppes at Parma.

“Their business model is mostly used books, but because at The Shoppes we don’t have that kind of store, and to cater to the new book buyers, they agreed. So this store is going to be 99 percent new books. It’s slated to open July 1.”

Mayor Tim DeGeeter said he’s glad to hear that Walls of Books is coming to the busy retail area.

“This will be the first franchise in the state of Ohio,” DeGeeter said. “As an avid reader, I look forward to the opening in the near future.”

Headquartered in Byron, Ga., Walls of Books has stores in Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Washington, Tennessee, Iowa and Georgia.

The Parma Walls of Books location will be stocked with new books, as well as a wide variety of toys and educational products. Some of the dozens of educational toy brands include Plus-Plus, Crazy Aaron’s, MerryMakers and SmartMax.

Currently under interior renovation, Walls of Books will be located in an 8,000-square-foot site — vacant since
