Trampoline park, virtual reality center approved for Braintree’s South Shore Plaza

BRAINTREE — An entertainment venue offering trampolines and state-of-the-art virtual reality machines is planned for South Shore Plaza.

The planning board at its meeting Tuesday night unanimously approved a special permit for Manj Trampoline Park for the business, Space Zero, which will be located on the first floor of the Nordstrom wing of the mall.

Frank Marinelli, a lawyer representing the company, said it would offer a “youth entertainment experience” including 10 trampolines and a variety of virtual reality machines, including a motorcycle ride, ski simulator and a rock climbing simulator. A couple of the virtual reality machines are already in use at the mall.

The South Shore Plaza in Braintree had many shops either close or reduce hours due to the statewide COVID shutdown, Monday March 16, 2020 Greg Derr/The Patriot Ledger

The 7,400-square-foot space would also include two rooms for birthday parties and other functions, but no food will be prepared in the premises.

He said entertainment venues are becoming more and more common in malls as shoppers make more of their purchases online.

“This is the trend retail is taking,” Marinelli said.

The business is expected to open in August or September.
