Heather Rae El Moussa Opens Up About Marriage, Couples Therapy

Heather Rae El Moussa is pulling back the curtain on her relationship with husband Tarek El Moussa — and whether or not they are considering expanding their family.

“We have two [kids] half the time,” Heather, 37, said on the Friday, September 12, episode of the “Penthouse With Peta” podcast. “We’re already spread so thin. [I think he feels like] giving quality time and attention to each one and each other … Our lives are really chaotic, really crazy. But for me, I’m like, ‘We’ll figure it out. Yeah it’s chaotic, yeah it’s crazy. But we love being parents. It’s the biggest joy of our lives.’”

Heather shared that she and Tarek, 44, were “inseparable” before welcoming son Tristan in 2023. (Tarek is also dad to daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 10, whom he shares with ex-wife Christina Haack.)

“After we had Tristan, I’m home with the baby, he’s off with the bigger kids and then he’s off to the office and traveling for work and I’m home. I also thought before I had Tristan, I was going to be jet setting off with him and traveling and on the business trips,” she said. “Then I had him and I was like, ‘Oh, no, no, no. I’m home. I’m breastfeeding. I’m at home.’ I’m kind of in my homebody nurturing phase and he’s still kind of like, ‘Go go go go go.’”

She continued, “That kind of made our relationship grow apart. We’ve had to navigate coming back together and connecting again and working through because we were so used to always being together. … It was just not normal for us. Kind of working through those challenges.”

Heather shared that she and Tarek have been doing couples therapy “every other week” in person.

“We’re not going often,” Heather said. “I feel like we need to go more often because there’s a lot of times that they help you communicate through a little issue where … it’s just stupid. It’s like, he was living something and I was living another thing. We could’ve just talked through it. It wouldn’t have blown up to what it was.”

When asked how she and Tarek “keep it spicy,” Heather quipped, “I mean, we’re very active in that department. He is a lucky man. He’ll try to say otherwise. But I talk to my friends about it and they’re like, ‘Oh, my God. You do?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, oh yeah.’”
