Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s Quotes About Their Romance Before Split

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were vocal about their love for each other prior to their split in September 2025.

The pair met at the G’Day USA Gala in 2005 and started dating a few months later.

“I remember thinking I had a crush on him, and he wasn’t interested in me,” Kidman said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2017. “It’s true! He didn’t call me for four months.”

Kidman and Urban eventually tied the knot in June 2006 and went on to welcome daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret in July 2008 and December 2011, respectively.

They have continued to be each other’s biggest supporters throughout the years — even praising each other during award speeches.

“We got married in June 2006 and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions … that I’d done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens,” Urban said onstage at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024. “Four months into a marriage, I’m in rehab for three months. I had no idea what was going to happen to us … and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl.”

Urban revealed that Kidman helped him push “through every negative voice” and always “chose love.”

“And here we are tonight, 18 years later,” he gushed.

In September 2025, Us Weekly confirmed that the duo had separated after 19 years of marriage. Kidman filed for divorce one day later on September 30, citing “irreconcilable differences” for the reason for their breakup.

Their ‘Incredibly Raw’ and ‘Incredibly Dangerous’ Romance

In November 2009, Kidman noted that she had “explored the mundane aspect of marriage and monogamy” in her previous marriage to Tom Cruise, however, with Urban, things were different.

“[It’s] incredibly raw, incredibly dangerous … you’re very much out at sea. You’re exposed. You could drown,” she told British GQ at the time.

Kidman’s Intervention for Urban Helped Strengthen Their Bond

At the beginning of their marriage, Kidman staged an intervention for Urban, who was hooked on cocaine and other substances.

“It was a really profound moment in so many ways,” Urban said in a 2010 interview. “The way in which Nic handled that moment was just perfect … Everything was just designed, I believe, for that moment to fuse us together.”

Urban added that he believed that Kidman taught him “so much” and “brought so much into [his] life and opened [his] eyes in so many ways.”

In the August 2012 GQ Australia issue, Urban said that Kidman always called him out whenever he was moping.

“Negativity and doubt are always creeping into my life and having to be kept at bay. Thankfully, Nic is great at calling me on it, and our marriage is at the stage where she doesn’t have to say anything,” he said. “I hear myself prattling on with negative crap and her loaded silence shuts me up.”

They Wrote Letters to Each Other

During an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in October 2014, Kidman said that she and Urban used to write letters to each other when they were away from each other.

“I write him things too! He doesn’t write them every single day. When we’re apart, we do that, yeah,” she said. “I have to say, I love saying this because he should be just adored.”

While preparing for the intensity of her Big Little Lies role, Kidman relied on Urban as support.

“I’m so lucky that I found it. It’s such an unstable industry and he’s my solace,” she told Vogue Australia in August 2024. “Every day we get up in the morning and we go for a walk — and we hold hands. We love holding hands!”

In a speech honoring his wife at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, Urban gushed about Kidman.

“That’s the thing about Nic … she loves life. I’ve actually never met anyone who has such a passion for being alive. She knows the importance of expressing feelings, as well,” he shared. “I wasn’t raised like this at all, so our girls are very lucky to be learning from you, baby. I’m learning to.”
