Justin Trudeau’s Halloween Costume Pays Homage to Katy Perry Amid Romance

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appears to have an entirely new reason to get into the Halloween spirit: Katy Perry!

“Ready for Halloween with Hadrien: he’s the surfer, I’m the shark (to his left). We built the costume together — a little father-son Halloween teamwork. 🎃🦈🏄‍♂️,” Trudeau, 53, wrote via Instagram on Friday, October 31, sharing a photo of his youngest son Hadrian Trudeau dressed as a bloody surfer, while the politician appears to dress up as the infamous Super Bowl 49 left shark.

Trudeau’s shark was nearly identical to the costume worn in the 2015 viral moment, when the so-called “Left Shark” during Perry’s Super Bowl halftime show went rogue with their dance moves, unceremoniously stealing the show and becoming an instant cultural icon.

The former prime minister and the pop star first sparked dating rumors in July, when they were spotted taking a walk together in Montreal’s Mount Royal Park before later sitting down to have a private meal together at the Le Violon restaurant.

Us Weekly later confirmed their relationship on October 24, though insiders told Us the singer and her new beau are taking things slow.

“They’ve decided to be much more private about it. … They are still speaking and are very interested in each other,” one source said at the time, while another added that their relationship “isn’t serious” since Perry was “extremely busy” on tour.

They also said, “Justin has made plans to see her when she has downtime in a few weeks when she gets back from her tour in Brazil. Katy is taking it day by day but is very open to dating.”

On October 25, another source gave Us more insight into the pair’s budding romance.

“Katy is really into it. She’s very happy,” an insider told Us. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.”

The source continued, “Their friends think they are a good match, but he actually hasn’t met a lot of her friends yet.”

The pair’s relationship went public one month after Us exclusively confirmed that Perry and ex Orlando Bloom had officially called off their engagement after 10 years together.

“Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting,” reps for the pair confirmed in a joint statement to Us on July 3. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”

In September Bloom told NBC’s Today of Perry: “We’re great [and] we’re going to be great. It’s nothing but love.”

Bloom, 48, and Perry share their 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, and the Lord of the Rings star also shares 14-year-old son Flynn with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr. Perry was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.
