Goldie Hawn is opening up about the story of son Oliver Hudson’s circumcision.
“He was a month old,” Hawn, 79, recalled on an episode of Oliver, 49, and Kate Hudson’s “Sibling Revelry” podcast on Monday, November 3. “I was really, really upset. I wanted to be in there because I felt I could make him feel good.”
Hawn — who shares Oliver and Kate, 46, with ex Bill Hudson and son Wyatt with partner Kurt Russell — went on to say that she ended up waiting around, still “upset” that she couldn’t comfort her son.
“The doctor came out and said, ‘You’ll be happy to know I needed a bigger clamp,’” she said. “I said, ‘Oh my God, now what?’”

After Oliver started laughing and noted that Hawn had previously told the story on a talk show, guest Mel Robbins jokingly asked if he had ever thanked his mom.
“Kind of. … ‘It’s like a bigger clamp.’ I’m like, what?” he said before Robbins, 57, added that it was “better than her saying we can’t find something small.”
Hawn welcomed son Oliver in 1976, followed by daughter Kate in 1979 with Bill, 76. After her divorce from Bill in 1982 after six years of marriage, Hawn moved on with Russell, 74, in 1983 and the twosome welcomed son Wyatt in 1986. (Russell also shares son Boston with ex Season Hubley.)
Over one year ago, Oliver opened up about his childhood after doing a course where people were focused on “unpacking the patterns that were put upon you from your parents and stepparents.” Although Oliver thought the experience would be focused on his dad and Russell, his relationship with Hawn came up the most.
“My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma about interestingly enough because she was my primary caregiver and I was with her all of the time,” he shared on his “Sibling Revelry” podcast with guest Bode Miller in March 2024. “I felt unprotected at times. She would be working. She had new boyfriends that I didn’t really like. She would be living her life and she was an amazing mother. This is my own perception as a child who didn’t have a dad and needed her to be there and she just wasn’t sometimes and she came out far more than even my dad who wasn’t there.”

Although they may have been through some rocky times together, Oliver is now very close with Hawn and Russell.
“My parents are amazing grandparents,” Oliver — who shares sons Wilder, 18, and Bodhi, 15, and daughter Rio, 12, with wife Laura Hudson — told Us Weekly in April 2021. “We’re a very tight family. We all live very close to each other. … They’re amazing people, amazing grandparents, amazing parents.”
Oliver is even looking forward to spending Hawn’s 80th birthday together later this month.
“We’re going to keep it pretty chill because that’s what she wants,” Oliver shared with People in October. “I mean, trust me, I brought up everything like, ‘Should we go to India?’ And she just wants to keep it cool so we’re just going to keep it very, very family.”
