New details have continued to emerge following the death of influencer Iris Hsieh.
News broke in October 2025 that Hsieh was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. She was 31. After her death, the content creator and OnlyFans model was mourned by her more than half a million Instagram followers.
“Baby, you’ve worked so hard being a carefree and happy little angel 🧚♀️ Rest in peace,” one user wrote in Hsieh’s comments section, while another added, “An angel who will live forever in my heart.” A third replied, “Hsieh Yu-hsin, may you rest in peace. You’ll always live in my heart as an angel.”
While initially labeled as a sudden death report, the investigation into Hsieh’s death has been reclassified as a homicide, local outlets reported. Malaysian rapper and filmmaker Namewee has since been detained by police.

Who Is Iris Hsieh?
Prior to her death, Hsieh rose to online fame with her OnlyFans account and content — amassing more than 548,000 followers on Instagram.
“Some people say my account keeps disappearing and changing … But what I want to say is: I’m still here, and that’s enough,” Hsieh wrote in Chinese via Instagram in May 2025. “From disappearing with 920,000 followers, to starting over, and then disappearing again, several times. So, I don’t think every follower is a miracle, but proof that I never give up!”
She continued, “You think I’m managing an account, but actually I’m managing a breath of fresh air. Thank you to everyone who can still find me, thank you for not treating me as a passerby, but remembering me and staying. This world moves fast, but I don’t want to pretend! I’m just taking it slow, slowly building things up, slowly holding on, and I’m still here.”
Hsieh claimed that she was fully herself online.
“I can guarantee one thing: every word, every picture, every outburst here is me,” she said. “350,000 followers isn’t just a number, it’s proof that you still believe I’m interesting. If you’ve seen me at my lowest point and are still willing to stay, then this account isn’t just an account, it’s the unspoken companionship between us.”
Who Is Namewee?
The Malaysian rapper and filmmaker was previously arrested in 2016 after allegedly insulting people who practiced Islam in his “Oh My God” music video. After posting bail, Namewee (real name Wee Meng Chee) was released from police custody.
Years later, Namewee was linked to the death of Hsieh. Sky News reported in November that Namewee will “be placed under remand for six days,” according to his attorney. “I hope that the investigation will be carried out thoroughly and with the utmost objectivity and fairness,” lawyer Joshua Tay said in a statement.
Why Was Namewee Detained in Connection to Iris Hsieh’s Death?
As authorities investigated Hsieh’s death, police charged Namewee with drug possession and use. He denied the allegations in a social media statement, sharing before his detainment that he would cooperate with the investigation.
“I have now arrived at the police station and will cooperate fully with the investigation to provide an explanation to the public and the deceased family,” Namewee said in a translated statement. “I will not run away.”
Namewee noted that he was “deeply sorry” about Hsieh’s death.
