Dean McDermott is opening up about the love he still has for Tori Spelling after finalizing their divorce.
McDermott, 58, spoke exclusively to Us Weekly about his connection with his ex-wife while at Cure Addiction Now’s second annual fundraising event in Los Angeles on Monday, November 10.
“We’re great coparents,” the actor, who’s been sober for over two years, told Us on the red carpet ahead of the fundraiser that united supporters, advocates, and experts to raise money for the cause’s groundbreaking initiatives.
“Our relationship is fantastic,” McDermott said. “We’re a united front. It’s all about the kids.”

McDermott shares five children with Spelling, 52, including Liam, 18, Stella, 17, Hattie, 14, Finn, 13, and Beau, 8. The star also shares his oldest son, Jack, 27, with ex Mary Jo Eustace.
McDermott and Spelling even plan to continue with their Christmas traditions as a family.
“Every year we go and get our pictures with Santa. I think we’ve missed one year as a family, so we always do that. I don’t see that stopping anytime soon now that Tori and I aren’t together,” he shared.
“At the end of the day, we’re a family, right? And whether we’re together or not, I love Tori. I’ll love her for the rest of my life,” he continued. “And she’s gonna love me for the rest of her life.”
He added, “It just didn’t work out as a couple. But you know, we’re parents. We coparent together beautifully, and we love each other. So, you know, that’s a great formula for moving forward and solidifying and growing our family.”
McDermott and Spelling are even on the same page when it comes to addressing his past struggles to their kids.
“They all know, and they’re super supportive, and you know, by talking to them and being an open book about my addiction, it’s helping us mend our relationship. They get a better insight into how dad thinks and behaves, so that they can understand too, that it’s not them, it was me, and that’s so important,” he told Us.
McDermott also revealed how getting help for his addiction has contributed to him becoming a better father.
“I’m blessed that I have six beautiful children. They’re healthy, amazing, and I get to repair those relationships, and it’s going fantastic,” he said.
McDermott spoke about the clarity he’s found in sobriety and how he has to trust the universe when it comes to protecting his family.
“I love to control things as an addict, because it makes me feel safe, and I can’t. That’s the biggest thing I’ve learned in recovery, is that I can’t control everything. I can give guidance to my children. I can give advice, but you know what’s going to happen is going to happen. It’s God’s will,” he explained.
“What the best thing I can do now as a parent is just be there to listen,” McDermott added. “And if they want my advice, I’ll give it to them.”

The actor said that’s a “big difference” from before.
“When I was in my addiction, all I did was dictate. All I did was control,” he shared. “All I did was project anger. So today, I’m just here to be a dad to love them and listen.”
Several other celebrities touched by addiction joined McDermott at the second annual fundraiser event, held at The Beverly Hills Hotel, raising over $180,000 for the cause started by socialite Nancy Davis after tragically losing her son, Jason, to the disease in 2020.
