Chase Stokes isn’t impressed with some of the comments on Kelsea Ballerini’s social media pages.
Over the weekend, the country singer posted a TikTok, which featured a snippet of her new song, “People Pleaser.”
“What does it mean? Keeps getting sadder / Was it sixteen that made me not matter?” Ballerini, 32, sang in the video, before transforming her casual outfit into a red-hot dress. “Was it Logan or Robby? Cheer captain named Carly / That made the cut deeper and messed up my body? I’ll keep being sweeter, but at my demise / Call me people pleaser and damn if they’re right.”
As a caption to the post, Ballerini wrote, “For my fellow people pleasers. I see you.”
Breaking Down Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes’ Relationship Timeline
On Monday, November 17, Stokes, 33, saw the post and decided to call out how some fans were reacting to the song in the comments section.
“These comments are f***ing weird,” he wrote. “Grow up.”
Soon after, the Outer Banks star received support from other fans, who cheered him on for speaking out.
“TELL THEM CHASE!!!!❤,” one user shared. Another fan wrote, “I love that he’s speaking up to defend his girl from those crazy fans 🥹💪🏻.”
While it’s unclear what Stokes was specifically referring to, some fans dropped clues as to what may have ruffled some feathers.
“OBX fans were posting nonsense and Chase called them out so they deleted it,” one supporter alleged.
Others have also speculated that Ballerini referenced Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline on her newest EP, Mount Pleasant.
In one song titled “Emerald City,” Ballerini sings, “I always liked the color of my eyes ’til I knew she had brown / I’m green/ Always liked my naive innocence ’til I learned she got around / I’m green. / If I got you, why does she still get me? / I hate to say it, but damn, she’s pretty / Never known this shade of envy / Just tell me I’m your Emerald City.”
Stokes previously dated Cline from 2019 to 2020. His most recent relationship, however, was with Ballerini.
News broke in September that Stokes and Ballerini had split after two years of dating. The breakup, however, was short-lived, as the Grammy nominee reconnected with Stokes earlier this fall in Europe.
The pair “never really stopped being in touch after their brief split,” a source exclusively shared with Us Weekly. “They really picked up where they left off. Kelsea wanted to give it another chance and missed Chase a lot.”
As for Stokes, the source said he “never wanted the breakup and felt “there was something between them and believed they just needed time to cool off and figure things out.”
