Selling Sunset has had a core relationship anchoring the real estate drama since season 1 with Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet, which makes sense since the two met while looking at homes.
“Romain flew out to look at some homes in the area and I was his agent!” Fitzgerald revealed to Women’s Health in August 2020. “We hit it off from there. His modeling agency encouraged him to relocate because of all the bookings in the L.A. area.”
The French model is 12 years younger than Fitzgerald, but that didn’t stop their romance from quickly getting hot and heavy.
The duo secretly wed in a civil union ceremony in March 2018, just a few months before they started filming the Netflix series. Us Weekly confirmed in August 2020 that the couple were already married before Bonnet proposed at the end of Selling Sunset season 1 and before their season 2 wedding. However, the stars’ representative said no one knew the two made things official that early.
“They chose not to tell any of their friends or family, as they were still trying to see if their relationship would work out in the long term,” the rep told Us at the time. “In their minds, they weren’t properly married until the wedding that was filmed during the show.”
By December 2022, the pair were still on their fertility journey.
“We did a round of embryo freezing, it didn’t work,” Fitzgerald exclusively told Us at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. “But I think on [Selling Sunset] season 6, you’ll see why, what happened. We didn’t get to finish that one, so now we’re just kind of just trying naturally.”
The real estate agent also gushed about what an “amazing dad” her partner will make. “He’s so loving and responsible and thoughtful, so he’s going to be great with a kid,” she said.

Bonnet first appeared on Fitzgerald’s Instagram when she was celebrating her birthday. “Amazing start to my bday celebration! #bdaycakes #flowers #bfpajamas,” she captioned the candid pics.
She was still living with Selling Sunset’s Christine Quinn, and the model spent plenty of time with the roommates before their falling out. “When I was living with Christine still, he was there, like, all the time, and basically started living with us,” Fitzgerald recalled to Us in an August 2020 interview. “And then we decided, OK, we need our own place.”
December 2017
The France native shared his first post featuring his love, and it was clear that their romance was getting serious. “You always been my biggest support and helped me for everything no matter what … I’ll give my best to make you happy. ❤️ Christmas is coming soon, can’t wait for it 🙏🏼😊,” he wrote via Instagram at the time.
March 2018
The couple tied the knot in a courthouse ceremony, but they kept their legal marriage secret while planning their luxurious wedding.
“It’s not that big of a deal,” Fitzgerald insisted to Us in 2020. “They’re like, ‘The show’s fake. This is all fake.’ We’re like, ‘What are you talking about? You see all of our family! How can you fake that? That was our wedding!’ People sign a certificate all the time before they do their actual wedding.”
February 2019
Nearly a year after their first nuptials, the pair finally went to France to meet Bonnet’s side of the family. “Loving my first few days in France, meeting the family ☺️❤️,” Fitzgerald wrote via Instagram.
March 2019
The two found their romance getting way more attention when Selling Sunset debuted on Netflix.
April 2019
After much debate among the Selling Sunset cast about the moissanite engagement ring Bonnet first gave Fitzgerald, he replaced it with a real diamond (which was always his intention). “Finally got her the ring that she deserves 💍 ❤️💯,” he captioned a snap via Instagram.
October 2019
The pair said “I do” on October 12. “It was amazing,” Bonnet told Us in February 2022. “Sometimes, we even go back and watch. It’s pretty amazing to be able to watch again and again, your wedding.”
May 2020
Bonnet stood up to Davina Potratz and refused to invite her to his wedding after she mocked the first engagement ring he gave Fitzgerald.
“Let’s just be clear, I would never let anyone talk s–t in any way about her or our couple. I married her @themaryfitzgerald because I love with all my heart art and she is my half,” he wrote via Instagram after the second season dropped. “So no matter what, I will be the one in front, standing for us & her, like a real man that’s truly in love ! Mary may be to nice and trying to make everyone happy, even if that means she will not, but not me. She come first no matter what ! 👊🏼❤️”
January 2021
The pair moved into a new house.
June 2021
The two threw what might be the most extravagant dog birthday party of all time, proving that Bonnet has truly embraced his role as Nico and Zelda’s stepdad. (Fitzgerald shares custody of the pups with ex Jason Oppenheim.)
June 2022
The couple walked the red carpet at the MTV Movie & TV Awards Unscripted in Los Angeles.
December 2022
During an interview with Us, Fitzgerald opened up about how she thinks Bonnet would be as a father. “[Romain] will be incredible. He is going to be the most amazing dad, because I had some reservations going into it, because I did it on my own, but he’s going to be amazing,” she told Us the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. “He’s so loving and responsible and thoughtful, so he’s going to be great with a kid.”
At the time, the duo also offered an update on their plans to expand their family.
“I’m very open about it. We did a round of embryo freezing, it didn’t work. We need to do another one, we started another round,” Fitzgerald continued. “But I think on [Selling Sunset] season 6, you’ll see why, what happened. We didn’t get to finish that one so now we’re just kind of just trying naturally.”
She added: “He’s like, ‘Come on, we need to try more! Practice makes perfect.’ So, we’re not being crazy about it or anything, but we’re just trying naturally. Then, when things slow down we’ll do another round if it doesn’t work naturally.”
January 2023
The pair enjoyed a long-overdue honeymoon in Bali, which was postponed for several years due to work conflicts and COVID-19 travel restrictions.
“We are absolutely loving the little paradise our dear friends @max_loong and @simplysepi have created here in Bali … 3 years later and we can finally enjoy their wedding gift to @theromainbonnet and I ❤️,” Fitzgerald captioned an Instagram video from the trip.
November 2025
During an episode of the “Trading Secrets” podcast, Fitzgerald revealed that she and Bonnet signed an “iron clad” prenup after her ex-husband “took everything” from her and “ran up a bunch of credit” in her name.
“I make more money and Romain is fine with that, he doesn’t care. He contributes,” Fitzgerald said, noting the pair have separate bank accounts. “People were saying he’s a gold digger. He contributes and always wants to. He’s a very stubborn man.”
She pointed out that she doesn’t think her husband would ever try and “take” her money, but simply wants to be protected, and made sure their agreement was outlined when they were “in love” so they both kept their “wits” about them.
“Basiically it states that any money that I put into the house comes back to me first if we sell it. Then he gets an amount that we both decided was fair when we were in love and a good place,” she explained.
If the pair ever split, Fitzgerald said that she and Bonnet would “take out” whatever they walked into the relationship with.
