Katie Thurston is opening up about her ongoing battle against breast cancer and how it is impacting her mentally and emotionally.
“I’ve been struggling with my health lately,” she admitted via her Instagram Story on Friday, November 14. “Slow to recover. We thought maybe it was the air vents since we’re using our heaters more. As renters, we have no idea how long it’s been since they’ve been cleaned, if ever.”
She continued: “Today the heating units are being cleaned professionally and OMG I think this was the culprit. Friendly reminder to check your air quality of your home and stay on top of regular maintenance! And if you’re a renter like me, don’t be afraid to ask when the last time the air ducts have been cleaned. There are laws protecting us and our health.”
In October, Thurston — who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2025 — told E! News she was “doing good, all things considered.” (Thurston shared that her cancer spread to her liver in March 2025.)
Katie Thurston Has ‘Moments’ She Feels Like She’s Dying Amid Cancer Battle
“I actually get my six-month scan on Monday, so I feel very optimistic about it,” she told the outlet, before opening up about her support system and how they’re holding her up during her health struggles.
“You can’t face cancer alone,” she told the outlet of her husband Jeff Arcuri’s support. “You really have to rely on your friends and family. And to have someone who’s your partner, who’s right there with you every step of the way? It’s meant everything.”
Thurston also admitted that battling cancer has changed how she approaches a lot of things in her life.
“I’ve realized you never know what someone is going through,” she said. “I find that I’m more patient with strangers. If someone is driving too slow or grumpy, you don’t know what they’re going through in their own life. And so I just feel like I’m more kind.”
In September, Thurston turned to Instagram to express the ups and downs she’s weathered of late.
“Tomorrow is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I’m, like, totally crashing out if I’m being so for real,” Thurston said in the video posted to her Instagram Stories. “I don’t know what I’m even saying, guys. I just want to be so honest. I know I seem positive sometimes, but it’s very hard to be positive.”
She added, “I was very much looking forward to, like, the end of the year kind of being my final push and then it’s smooth sailing. You know, like, treatment’s working, things are good. Instead, it’s like I’m hurting my liver, I’m lowering my dose of medication, I’ve postponed my surgery, which I haven’t even talked about yet.”
Katie Thurston Shares Tearful Cancer Update Ahead of ‘Big Scan’
This wasn’t the first time Thurston addressed the scarier parts of coping with the disease. In April 2025, she told “Uncomfortable Conversations” host Emmanuel Acho that she worries about dying from the disease.
“I think that comes from reading from other people’s experiences. Just like others, there’s just a lot of unknown,” she said at the time. “People just aren’t experienced with cancer. You usually hear stage 4, you hear that it’s spread to the liver, and I think automatically people think you have a short time to live.”
