After Stassi Schroeder and Beau Clark seemingly shaded Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright for missing their nuptials, it’s been confirmed that there is a rift between the two former Vanderpump Rules couples.
Bravo fans will recall Schroeder and Taylor dating at the start of the reality show, which premiered in 2013. After two seasons of ups and downs, she declared she would never be friends with her ex after he slept with their friend Kristen Doute. After Schroeder rejoined Vanderpump Rules during season 4, she and Taylor eventually made amends. The Next Level Basic author also befriended the bartender’s now-wife, Cartwright.
Amid cast shakeups ahead of season 9 of Vanderpump Rules, it was confirmed Schroeder, Clark, Cartwright and Taylor would not be returning. The two couples stayed close, however, as they welcomed their respective children. (The “The Good, the Bad, and the Baby” podcast hosts share daughter Hartford, born in January 2021, and the Jax and Brittany Take Kentucky alums share son Cruz, born in April 2021.)
Cartwright’s comments confirmed speculation that Schroeder and Clark were speaking about the Kentucky native and her spouse one month prior when they slammed friends who didn’t attend their Italy wedding on May 12.
When confronted by the couple, Taylor allegedly claimed he didn’t say he wasn’t going to attend the wedding. Clark and Schroeder both agreed that the unnamed couple would’ve “cut us” and “never talked to” them again if they “pulled” this “bulls–t” when Taylor and Cartwright got married.

According to Cartwright, there are several reasons why she and Taylor didn’t go to their former costars’ wedding.
“We had actual reasons why we couldn’t go that were not talked about. Like Cruz’s passport didn’t come in, my mom had a death in the family and had to go home,” Cartwright said on “Betches Moms” podcast. “I mean, there was actual things that happened right before the wedding that we actually couldn’t make it to the wedding for those reasons. But I know, like, having to wait to the last minute and not being able to be there for someone who I really do think of as one of my best friends, like, I feel terrible about and I’m truly sorry. And I hope that one day, we’ll be able to talk about this and figure it all out. Because I do want our kids to grow up together.”
She insisted that she did not “wait to the last minute because I knew I was going to not be there for weeks” despite Schroeder and Clark’s claims.
“That was not the case. It was that I was literally trying to be there, up until the very last minute,” she said. “So there was a lot of things that were going on. And I don’t know, I just felt terrible about it altogether because that’s just not my personality, I would never try to put my friend in that situation. And I don’t know, I just hope that one day we can talk about it, figure it out and get past it over time. I’m just gonna give her time.”

Days before they left for the wedding, Schroeder said Taylor admitted that he didn’t know Clark was in one of the group chats that he told he was going to a golf tournament instead of the wedding.
“Then not 24 hours before — the day we’re leaving for our flight to go to Rome — two hours before we leave the house. … I get a text from the girl part of this relationship saying, ‘We’re not coming,’ with many, many reasons as to why they’re not coming. It was a novel,” Schroeder said. “Two hours before I‘m about to go to the airport to get married I get a text from friends that are supposed to be our close friends that they’re not going to make it. It was so mind-blowingly insane.”
Clark said he believed both parties were “lying” about their intentions.
“This is supposed to be our happy sendoff … I was sitting there going like, ‘Really? This is the type of people we’re having in our lives?’ I just want good people in my life,” he said.

In July 2022, Maloney told Us that she wanted to “fully stay out [of]” the drama, but admitted, “I think you could probably guess whose side I’m on. … There were some genuine feelings that were hurt there and it’s sort of, like, turned into this weird, public thing that just shouldn’t have gotten to that point, unfortunately.”

“I can’t believe that I took two spots. I can’t believe I thought we were close. I feel stupid that I thought we were better friends than that. I wanna surround myself with [friends] that communicate with me, that we have mutual respect,” Schroeder said. “And when I was at the wedding, I looked around at everyone that was there and I was like, ‘God, I love every single person that’s here. I’m so thankful for each person that’s here and what a wonderful group of people that we love [and] that wouldn’t do that to us.’”
Clark claimed that the last text he got from the pair read, “We love you guys … so sorry,” but he and Schroeder agreed that that wasn’t love. “It’s not about the fact that you guys didn’t come. It’s the way you handled it,” she said. “You obviously don’t care that much about us or have that much love and respect for us to communicate and handle it in a respectful way and I’m not here for it.”

Schroeder and Taylor no longer keep up with each other via Instagram. Clark and Taylor also aren’t following each other. The Off With My Head author is, however, following Cartwright — and vice versa.

“I felt terrible. I still feel terrible because I do love them,” Cartwright said on the July 1, episode of the “Scheananigans” podcast of what went down between her and Schroeder. “I think about it all the time.”
The Kentucky native claimed: “I have reached out since the wedding and said, ‘Everything is so gorgeous and I hope that we can talk one day and I’m so sorry for how things went down,’ and I haven’t gotten any response just yet. I’ll try again in a couple weeks or something. I just like to make things right. … I get so upset. I don’t want to cause any drama.”
Cartwright also set the record straight on whether she knew about Taylor’s text message drama in the weeks leading up to the wedding. “I personally never sent any text messages. I will make that very clear because I would never do that to them. I was planning on going 1,000 — 100 percent,” the Jax and Brittany Take Kentucky alum said. “Jax just started getting in his head, getting all worked up about flying with the baby so he tells — which is a lot — and you know how Jax is, he’ll just text and rage text and everything else.”
Cartwright noted that “it hurts” her feelings how strained her relationship has become with Schroeder amid all of the drama. “I know we were in the wrong at the end of the day. I know that for sure,” she confessed, noting she has tried to make amends.

According to Cartwright and Shay, the former Hooters waitress sent Schroeder the money to cover her and Taylor’s plates at the wedding. The Off With My Head author allegedly sent the money back after Cartwright and Shay recorded a podcast about the situation in July 2022.
“Stassi sent the money back. … Brittany had paid for the plates because she couldn’t make it. And said ‘Scheananigans podcast’ [as the note],” Shay told Us. “We didn’t do it maliciously or to talk s–t. And then the backlash from it, it was, like, that actually wasn’t even the intention. We’re like hopefully once she hears this, she’ll be like, ‘Oh, my God, now I understand.’ … It backfired on us.”

In June 2023, Schroeder discussed why she didn’t see herself getting to a better place with Taylor and Cartwright.
“I do miss them at times. They hurt me — they really did. It feels like I can’t trust them anymore,” she said on “The Toast” podcast. “I am over it, but it doesn’t mean I have to go be besties with these people again.”

“I want nothing but the best for Stassi. We’re definitely not as close as we were and I definitely miss her so, so much. But we’re nice to each other,” Cartwright told E! News in February 2024. “We give each other hugs. Hopefully one day we can get back how we used to be, but I’m so happy for her and her beautiful family.”
