The relationship may be over, but the living arrangements stay the same. That’s been the case for a number of celebrity exes — including Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval, Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson and more.
For Sandoval and Madix — who split in March 2023 after Madix discovered Sandoval had been cheating behind her back for months with their fellow Vanderpump Rules costar Raquel Leviss — the duo are still cohabitating amid their tumultuous breakup.
“They own the house together, and what happens next with the property will take time to sort out,” a rep for Sandoval told Us Weekly at the time. “This isn’t something that’s going to be decided in a weekend.”
Five months later, Sandoval confirmed that he and Madix were still living together.
“We don’t really look at each other too often,” Sandoval quipped. “We don’t even look at each other when we have sex anymore, it’s crazy.” (Sandoval, for his part, clarified: “I’m just kidding.”)
Keep scrolling to see which former A-list couples decided to stay under one roof despite their split:
Drew Sidora and Ralph Pittman
Pittman filed for divorce in February 2023 and neither of them immediately moved out.
“It’s still not settled and yes, we’re still living together under the same roof,” Sidora told People in July 2024. “He is living in the basement, and that was court-ordered. It’d be much easier if we were able to move on separately; you know, out of sight, out of mind, with your own space and your own energy. But that’s clearly not in the cards.”
Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann
Zolciak and Biermann each filed for divorce in May 2023, only to withdraw the petition weeks later. Biermann later refiled but the pair continued living in the same Georgia mansion.
One year after the initial filing, they were still living together and were even court-ordered to follow a strict closet schedule amid their contentious divorce.
“Respondent, Kimberleigh M. Zolciak, shall have access to the Master Bedroom closet Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.,” read the May 2024 docs. “Petitioner, Kroy E. Biermann, shall not access or enter said Master Bedroom closet between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.”
Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson
Kardashian explained her living arrangements on a July 2023 episode of The Kardashians, revealing that her ex — and father of her daughter True and son Tatum — and his youngest brother were living with her and the kids after the death of his mother, Andrea, and while they waited to get their home fixed.
“Tristan has a house that he is doing construction on and renovating. He was able to live there during renovations but we had crazy weather for California, like extreme rain. Tristan’s roof caved in on his home and caused flooding,” she revealed. “So Tristan and [his youngest brother] Amari are staying at my house now until his home gets fixed.”
Kardashian added: “God does have a plan and God doesn’t want him to be alone right now. And why should he be?” she questioned. “I just think this is what family does. When s—t hits the fan all you have is your family and Tristan and I are family. We are going to be family for the rest of our lives.”
Braunwyn Windham-Burke and Sean Burke
In an interesting turn of events, Sean moved to Nashville to live with his ex-wife — and her new partner.
“We have been in Nashville for about a month now and we’re all cohabitating,” the Real Housewives of Orange County alum told Page Six in May 2023. “Sean has a bedroom downstairs. We have the room upstairs and we’re one big happy modern family.”
Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo
Court documents obtained by Us Weekly in May 2024 revealed that Lindsay and Abasolo were still living under the same roof despite filing for divorce in January.
The couple met on season 13 of The Bachelorette and were married for four years, relocating from Miami to Los Angeles together.
According to the court documents, Abasolo described his and Lindsay’s living situation as “awkward and strained.” He has since filed a motion requesting emergency spousal support so he can put down a deposit on a new residence and vacate the property.
“I want to move out of our Family Residence as soon as possible, but maintaining our standard of living is not financially feasible at this time,” Abasolo claimed in his motion. “I placed my career as a chiropractor on hold to move twice for Rachel’s career. These moves were detrimental to my chiropractic business, while Rachel’s income and success as a media personality skyrocketed.”
As for Lindsay, she stated in January that she was “trying to take it day by day.”
Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix
Sandoval came under fire when his months-long affair with Leviss came to light in March 2023, ending his nine-year relationship with Madix. Despite all of the drama — which played out on season 10 of Vanderpump Rules and the explosive three-part reunion, Sandoval and Madix continued to live under the same roof.
Madix — who purchased the $2 million L.A. home with Sandoval in 2019 — is eager to move out. “I want my money out of that house as quickly as possible. I want to move on,” she told host Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in May 2023.
Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kroy Biermann
Though the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum and Biermann wound up calling off their divorce, the pair were still living together during their messy split. (The duo each filed for divorce in May 2023, but reconciled that July.)
Amid their separation, Zolciak-Biermann and the athlete — who share four children together, as well as the Bravo personality’s two daughters from a previous relationship — were “avoiding each other” in their shared Georgia home, a source exclusively told Us in May 2023. “It’s a big house.”
Biermann filed for divorce for a second time one month after his and Zolciak-Biermann’s reconciliation. In the August 2023 filing, Biermann requested exclusive use of the duo’s Atlanta-area home and that Zolciak-Biermann be restrained from entering the property.
Robyn Dixon and Juan Dixon
The Real Housewives of Potomac stars famously lived together even after their 2012 split — to the point where their kids “didn’t even realize we were divorced,” Robyn told Bravo’s The Daily Dish in 2022. “They didn’t know we had gone through a rough time! They found out a lot of stuff about our relationship and our family from the show, because their friends are telling them. So then they come and tell us, ‘So why this? Why that?’ So I’d have to tell them, ‘We’re good, aren’t we? We’re good! Don’t worry about that.'”
The couple eventually reconciled and remarried in February 2023.
Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy
Frankel and Hoppy occasionally continued to cohabitate amid their nasty divorce, which was finalized in 2016 — four years after they announced their breakup.
“I had an apartment that I had shared with Jason. I had a padlock on my door to protect myself,” Frankel alleged in court in 2019 while fighting for full custody of daughter Bryn. “The conflict was day in and day out torture. Emotional, mental, phone, FaceTime, being followed, being harassed, being verbally attacked and all-out assault in every possible way — on my character, on my mental state, on my family, on my parenting, on my career, on my life,” she alleged at the time. (Hoppy denied the harassment allegations.)
Frankel was awarded full legal custody of Bryn in 2020.
