MLB star Freddie Freeman shares three sons with his wife, Chelsea Freeman.
The Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman became a dad in September 2016 when he and Chelsea welcomed son Charlie. Nearly five years later, Freddie and Chelsea, who tied the knot in 2014, welcomed two sons six weeks apart, one via surrogate. Brandon came first in December 2020 followed by Maximus in February 2021.
The couple decided to use a surrogate after struggling to conceive a second baby. They were already well into the surrogacy process when Chelsea unexpectedly became pregnant.
“Not something we were expecting at all, but it’s everything you want and more,” Freddie told USA Today in March 2021 of having two sons back to back. “It’s just such a crazy situation, really, to try to wrap your mind around it, but when you’re in it, and both boys are here, it’s like the best thing that ever happened. It’s going to be a long couple of years, but it’s going to be awesome when it’s all said and done. We’re having a blast. They’re great babies.”

Chelsea
Freddie met Chelsea when she was a student at the University of Central Florida. They started dating in 2011 and got married in 2014. Ahead of the duo’s nuptials, Chelsea appeared on a season 8 episode of Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta.
Before the couple expanded their family with the births of Brandon and Maximus, their infertility struggles took “a toll” on them both, Freddie told USA Today.
“I can try to be as comforting as possible, but it was definitely one of the toughest situations I’ve faced in my life, trying to comfort my wife during such an emotional roller-coaster ride she was on,” the athlete said. “You could just see when [Chelsea] told me she was pregnant – a complete boulder falling off her shoulders. It was just — I got my wife back. She was great all the way through it, but once she was pregnant, it was just amazing.”
Freddie added that the pair haven’t ruled out having more children and want a daughter. Chelsea told ESPN in November 2020 that fatherhood is in her husband’s DNA.
“As long as I’ve known him, he said that since he was a little boy, he always knew he wanted to be a dad,” she said. “As important as being a baseball player to him is, I think being a dad is even more important.”
Charlie
The eldest Freeman son is already following in his dad’s footsteps by playing youth baseball.
“He’s playing really well,” Chelsea told TMZ of Charlie in June 2023.
In February 2024, the Dodgers’ official Instagram account shared photos and video of Freddie and Charlie fielding ground balls together.

Brandon
Freddie and Chelsea threw a joint 3rd birthday party for Brandon and Maximus in March 2024.
“Brandon, you are the sweetest soul. You have so much joy in you. You give the best bear hugs,” Chelsea captioned Instagram photos of Brandon enjoying the festivities. “You LOVE everyone. You are the best surprise we ever got. Happy (belated) 3rd Birthday!!! We love you so much!!!”
Maximus
Maximus got a birthday shout-out of his own after the 3rd birthday party.
“Maximus, you are cheeky, smart and kind,” Chelsea captioned March 2024 Instagram snaps of her youngest. “You are determined and meticulous at everything you do. You give the BEST kisses. Happy 3rd Birthday!!! We love you so much!!”
That July, Maximus was rushed to the emergency room after experiencing pain so severe that he couldn’t stand or walk. Chelsea shared via her Instagram Story that doctors believed he developed transient synovitis, a condition also known as irritable hip, from a viral infection.
“Please say a prayer for Maximus,” she wrote. “Day 3 of not being able to sit, stand or walk… 🙏 Any tips to help toddlers take/keep down medicine? He is usually good at taking medicine but he keeps spitting it out 😢.”
