King Charles III has reportedly cut off financial ties from his brother Prince Andrew.

In his updated biography, titled Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, royal writer Robert Hardman claimed that Charles, 75, had instructed the Keeper of the Privy Purse, or the monarchy’s finance director, to revoke his brother’s annual personal allowance, reported to be in the realm of $1 million, according to the Daily Mail.

Per the Daily Mail, a source claimed, “The duke is no longer a financial burden on the King.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.

Additionally, Hardman’s book stated that the Palace will no longer finance Andrew’s private security detail, which is said to be in the seven-figure range. In August, it was reported that the King had laid off Andrew’s 10-person private security team. Charles had been reportedly funding his brother’s security detail since 2022 after he was stripped of his royal titles and, in turn, the publicly funded protection afforded to royal family members.

At the time, there was speculation that Charles might also ask the Duke of York and ex-wife Sarah Ferguson to vacate their residence at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, a 31-room mansion where the private security team also resided. The King is said to have previously demanded Andrew and Ferguson vacate the 90-acre property and move somewhere smaller like Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan.

Andrew has been a disgraced member of the royal family since 2019, when his connections to the late billionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein were made public. Andrew stepped back from his royal duties later that year after sexual misconduct allegations were leveled against him by Virginia Giuffre, who allegedly knew him in connection with Epstein. Giuffre eventually sued Andrew for the alleged assault, which they settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

This is the latest development in the King’s dwindling relationship with his brother, as Andrew has been fighting to maintain his residence in the Royal Lodge, though he had reportedly neglected to pay the annual $503,000 cost of the $37 million mansion’s upkeep.

Andrew was stripped of his royal titles in January 2022 by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. “With The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen,” Buckingham Palace announced in a statement at the time. “The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”

Charles has never publicly spoken out about the allegations against his younger brother.
