You know you’ve made it as a popstar when fans start decoding your lyrics for insight into your love life, and Sabrina Carpenter is no exception.
The Girl Meets World alum’s love life first made headlines in August 2020 when she was spotted out to lunch in Los Angeles with Joshua Bassett. The pair’s rumored romance raised eyebrows as many fans thought Bassett had been dating Olivia Rodrigo in secret.
Rodrigo fueled the drama in January 2021 after releasing her debut single, “Driver’s License,” that referenced a “blonde” who was “so much older than me.” Carpenter, for her part, denied recording her own “diss track” in January 2021 after the release of her song “Skin.” In 2022, Carpenter’s song “Because I Liked a Boy” caused fans to once again think there was a love triangle between her, Rodrigo and Bassett.
Bassett confirmed in December 2021 that he was single, and Carpenter has since been linked to Shawn Mendes, among others.

Bradley Steven Perry
The “Nonsense” singer and the Good Luck Charlie alum were first linked in 2014. That same year, Carpenter opened up to J-14 about how Perry first asked her on a date.
“[It was a] really unique way to ask someone out. [It was] like the pirate movies, like, they do the little bottles and they put notes in them and send them across the ocean, like one of those, and [he] put a note inside. It was cute,” she gushed at the time.
While the pair often took to social media to share glimpses of their relationship with fans, they called it quits in 2015 after one year of dating.
Griffin Gluck
The duo met on the set of their 2019 Netflix film, Tall Girl. In October of that year, Carpenter seemingly confirmed their romance when she posted a photo of the twosome in matching Halloween costumes via Instagram. That same year, they attended the premiere of Big Time Adolescence, in which Gluck starred alongside Pete Davidson.
While the twosome never publicly addressed their romance, they seemingly went their separate ways during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Joshua Bassett
Carpenter and Bassett were first linked in summer 2020 when they were spotted laughing together while at lunch and at various BLM protests in Los Angeles. That Halloween, the pair dressed up as Shark Boy and Lavagirl, sharing photos of the coordinating costumes via Instagram.
Romance rumors were fueled further the following year when Bassett’s ex-girlfirend Rodrigo released her debut single, “Driver’s License,” which fans speculated mentioned the “Sue Me” songstress.
While both Carpenter and Bassett continued to support each other’s careers via social media, the “Secret” crooner revealed he was single in a December 2021 interview with GQ.
Dylan O’Brien
The pair sparked romance rumors when they were spotted out and about in New York City together in September 2022.
Shawn Mendes
The Work It star and the “Stitches” singer raised eyebrows in January 2023 when they were photographed together in Los Angeles. They were seen together again the following month while exiting the Gucci store in Beverly Hills at a release party for Miley Cyrus.
While Mendes claimed that he was “not dating Sabrina” during a March 2023 interview with Dutch TV program RTL Boulevard, the “Nothing Holding Me Back” crooner sent fans into a frenzy when he donned a green pendant — seemingly the same as Carpenter’s birthstone — while attending the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
David Dobrik
Carpenter was linked to the YouTube star in August 2023 after they were spotted hanging out at the restaurant TAO Chicago following her Lollapalooza performance. Carpenter seemingly laughed off the rumors via Instagram two days later, captioning a series of snaps from the event, “Sry i don’t date lollapaloozas.”
While some fans were convinced Carpenter was shutting down hookup rumors, others claimed she was simply referring to her outro from the festival. “Turn that d–k to stone / Call me Medusa / Choking on him need Heimlich maneuver / Sorry I don’t date Lollapalooz-ers,” she sang in concert.
Barry Keoghan
Carpenter and Keoghan made headlines in December 2023 when the Daily Mail posted photos of them together in Los Angeles. By February 2024, the couple cozied up at a W Magazine afterparty, raising eyebrows once again. Us Weekly confirmed the following month that they were officially dating.
Since taking their romance public, Keoghan has been spotted supporting Carpenter as she heads out on tour, and even played her love interest in the June 2024 music video for her song “Please Please Please.”
Us confirmed in December 2024 that the pair called it quits nearly one year of dating.
