Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany Mahomes’ romance gives Us all the feels — starting with their high school sweetheart beginnings.
The couple started out as two friends in Texas who went to school together. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback became close with Brittany in 2011 when he was just a freshman at Whitehouse High School.
After dating for several years, the pair attended different colleges but remained an item.
“He ended up going to Texas Tech, and that’s when it really hit me, ‘Oh s—t, he might go play professional football,” Brittany told Today in December 2020 of her then-fiancé’s football skills. “It was surreal to see him living his dream and seeing him grow as an athlete and as a man in general was just amazing.”
They cemented their relationship in March 2022 when they said “I do” in Hawaii. Patrick and Brittany have since embraced married life — and the craziness that comes with raising three children.

March 2012
The Texas teens started dating in March 2012 when Patrick was a sophomore and Brittany was a junior at Whitehouse High School in East Texas. The pair were friends for a year before Patrick gave Brittany a Valentine’s Day card and a rose in the cafeteria, which resulted in the soccer player considering him as a romantic prospect.
May 2013
The couple attended multiple school dances together including Brittany’s senior prom in May 2013. “Best prom date a guy could ask for!! #prom2013 #bestfriend #greatnight,” the quarterback captioned a collage of photos from the night via Instagram.
August 2014
The pair kept their romance alive while attending different colleges in Texas. Patrick played football at Texas Tech University from 2014 to 2017, while Brittany played soccer for the University of Texas at Tyler from 2013 to 2017.
February 2016
The former baseball player gifted his girlfriend a puppy for Valentine’s Day in February 2016.
April 2017
Patrick chose to forgo his final year of eligibility as a college quarterback to enter the NFL draft in April 2017. He was picked by the Kansas City Chiefs as their first-round pick and the 10th overall pick.

May 2017
A month after her love signed with the Chiefs, Brittany landed her own deal with Iceland’s pro soccer team. Patrick was by her side in May 2017 when she signed the contract.
May 2019
After two seasons with the Chiefs, the couple bought a home together in May 2019 in Kansas City. The nearly $2 million home has three bedrooms, three baths, a home gym and pool, according to Bizjournals.com.
February 2020
The couple celebrated Kansas City’s Super Bowl win in February 2020 with an on-field kiss and lots of confetti.
“I am so beyond proud of this dude and this team, all year it was about battling, amazing comebacks and overcoming an injury, and for that YOU DESERVE THIS,” Brittany captioned a series of photos after the victory.

“8 years ago, you played safety & I was a cheerleader in a small town called Whitehouse, TX,” Brittany wrote via Instagram in March 2020, celebrating the pair’s 8-year anniversary. “Oh how times have changed! Love you❤️.”
September 2020
After more than eight years together, the professional athlete proposed to Brittany in September 2020. Patrick got down on one knee in a VIP box at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City in front of an illuminated sign that read, “Will You Marry Me?” There was also a massive floral display and a candlelight dinner to follow.

Weeks after getting engaged, Brittany and Patrick announced that they are expecting their first child together. “Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding❤️,” the bride-to-be wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of the pair holding a sonogram.

The soon-to-be parents revealed in October 2020 that they were having a baby girl. The pair set off confetti poppers while their friends and loved ones virtually watched the announcement.

The football player announced the arrival of his first child with Brittany on February 21. “Sterling Skye Mahomes 2/20/21,” he captioned an Instagram pic of his daughter’s hand with his and Matthews’. The new mom was photographed wearing a necklace bearing their daughter’s name.

Brittany celebrated the Kansas City Chiefs beating the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round NFL playoff game by popping a bottle of champagne and spraying fans in the Missouri stadium. “Oops 🤷🏻♀️ #LETSGOOOOO,” she captioned the clip via Twitter.

Brittany gave birth to the pair’s son on November 28. Named after his father, their second child will go by “Bronze.”

Patrick joined his wife as a part owner of the Kansas City Current more than two years after Brittany became involved with the team. The women’s soccer organization was also cofounded by Chris and Angie Long.
“I am thankful for the chance to join @brittanylynne as part of the @thekccurrent ownership team,” the quarterback wrote via an Instagram statement. “She and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”
Brittany, for her part, said in the team’s statement that she is “so thrilled to make this a family affair.” She noted that her husband” has been a huge supporter behind-the-scenes. His passion for the Current is undeniable and I am glad that he will be with us as we continue on our journey to become the best in the NWSL.”

The couple reminisced about the start of their relationship during episode 1 of Netflix’s Quarterback docuseries, which premiered on July 12. “We kinda met in seventh, eighth grade,” Patrick recalled in the documentary. “She was the grade above me, I was kind of the best friend, in the friend zone forever.”
It wasn’t until Patrick gifted Brittany a rose on Valentine’s Day during his sophomore year of high school that he upgraded from her friend to boyfriend. “He thought it was a joke,” Brittany said of the gesture. “I thought it was the cutest thing in the world. And then everyone at our lunch table started chanting, ‘Kiss him, kiss him,’ and made it really awkward cause we were ‘just friends’ so that’s kind of what started it and then I thought it was cute.”

Patrick led the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl victory before Brittany joined him on the field for the Lombardi Trophy presentation. She brought kids Sterling and Bronze with them, as well as Patrick’s mother, Randi, and brother Jackson.
“It means the world that [they’re here],” Patrick gushed. “Brittany is a great wife with two great kids. I can’t ask for anything better than this.”

The pair revealed they were expecting baby No. 3. Brittany and Patrick shared the news via an Instagram video that featured Sterling and Bronze showing off their mom’s ultrasound photos.

The couple welcomed their third child, daughter Golden Raye, on January 12. They announced the baby’s arrival via Instagram with a photo of her feet.
Just one week after giving birth, Brittany cheered on Patrick and the Chiefs during the divisional playoff game against the Houston Texans. Brittany was also on hand when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship on January 26, sending the team to Super Bowl LIX. (Patrick later revealed that Golden’s first NFL game will be Super Bowl 2025 in New Orleans.)

Brittany was in the stands at the Caesars Superdome cheering on Patrick and his team for Super Bowl LIX. The new mom of three brought her little ones on the field before kickoff.
