Emma Stone and husband Dave McCary kept their romance relatively under wraps before welcoming their first child in March 2021.
Stone previously dated Andrew Garfield, with whom she appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel. The costars were together for four years until Us Weekly confirmed in October 2015 that they had called it quits.
The next year, Stone hosted Saturday Night Live for the third time. At that point, McCary had been working behind-the-scenes at the NBC sketch comedy series for three seasons, having joined as a segment producer in 2013 alongside buddies Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett. The California native directed the Maniac actress in a digital short titled “Wells for Boys.”
Sparks seemingly flew between the two, but it wasn’t until October 2017 that their relationship was confirmed. Four months earlier, they were spotted leaving the premiere of Brigsby Bear, a comedy-drama directed by McCary and produced by Andy Samberg‘s The Lonely Island.
By December 2019, the pair were engaged. Us broke the news in January 2021 that Stone was pregnant, several months after the couple quietly tied the knot.
A source exclusively told Us that McCary gave his wife “all his energy and love” throughout her pregnancy, adding, “He caters to her left and right and treats her like a true queen, which she deserves.”

Stone crossed paths with the comedian when she hosted SNL for the third time in December 2016. McCary directed the Easy A actress in a pre-recorded sketch, “Wells for Boys.”
October 2017
Four months after they were spotted leaving the Hollywood premiere of McCary’s Brigsby Bear together, the couple’s romance was confirmed in October 2017.
December 2018
Fun and festive! The Favourite actress threw a roller-skating holiday party with the Haim sisters — and didn’t hold back on the PDA with McCary. “They stood right next to the stage in their skates for all of Haim’s set, dancing together and singing along,” a source revealed, adding that the pair were “attached at the hip” the whole night. “At one point, they slow-danced to a somewhat upbeat song. He initiated it and she excitedly followed. They held hands [with] his other hand around her waist and hers around his shoulders.”
January 2019
After keeping their relationship relatively hush-hush, the pair finally hit a red carpet together at the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Weeks earlier, an eyewitness told Us that Stone and her beau canoodled during an “affectionate” date night after the 2019 Golden Globes.
December 2019
The Oscar winner and her husband-to-be were all smiles when they announced their engagement via Instagram with a sweet selfie in December 2019.
September 2020
Reports that the twosome exchanged vows emerged in late 2020 after they were spotted wearing matching bands on their left hands. Four months prior, Stone sparked speculation that she wed McCary when she swapped her diamond ring for a gold one during an interview with Reese Witherspoon.
January 2021
Us exclusively confirmed the Battle of the Sexes star’s pregnancy in January 2021. “She seems very happy and very excited about becoming a mother — she’s constantly oohing and cooing,” a source told Us at the time. “She looks great, she looks healthy, she’s glowing. She’s been keeping up with friends and work lately, she’s always staying active and gets her daily exercise in.”
March 2021
Baby makes three! News broke in March 2021 that the couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl.
June 2021
The couple shared a rare date night out at a San Diego Padres game on June 22, 2021.
“La La Land…Naaahhhh… More like, Padre Land! Thanks to Emma Stone and her Husband David McCary for visiting us in the booth. It was truly a pleasure! Go Padres! #bestactress,” TV analyst Mark Grant wrote via Twitter after the duo visited him in his private booth.
January 2022
In addition to welcoming their daughter, Jean, amid the coronavirus pandemic, the couple also birthed a production company called Fruit Tree. Their first film, When You Finish Saving the World, made its debut at Sundance Film Festival. During a virtual panel after the premiere, the Cruella star and her husband explained why they wanted to produce.
“As an actor, you usually just go with what comes to you and you’re at the mercy of the process,” Stone said. “We don’t want to say we just want to make things — that sounds trite. Because we have these longstanding relationships, we thought it would be amazing to support these people in a more meaningful way than just being a cog.”
Their first film was written and directed by Stone’s Zombieland costar Jesse Eisenberg, and McCary revealed that they’re both friends with the Social Network star. McCary added during the panel, “We’re very close with him and want to be working with people that we love and trust.”

The parents enjoyed a date night at Paris Fashion Week where they watched the Louis Vuitton womenswear show. They were spotted holding hands outside the Musée d’Orsay, which served as the venue for the event.
October 2022
The twosome were spotted out at Citi Field in New York City for game one of the Wild Card series between the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets.
The pair both donned classic Padres bomber jackets, causing fans to boo them when they appeared on the Jumbotron. The couple took the criticism in jest, however, by raising their drinks for a toast and laughing off the disappointed crowd.

Stone and McCary had a rare date night at the Lakers-Knicks game on January 31, sitting courtside.
