Joanna Cassidy has confirmed that her romance with her former costar Suzanne Somers’ widower, Alan Hamel, is still going strong seven months after they went public.
Hamel initially revealed that he was dating his late wife’s Hollywood Wives costar Cassidy in June 2025. The Blade Runner and Six Feet Under actress subsequently shared a sweet update on her love life during a wide-ranging interview with former E! News host Steve Kmetko on his “Still Here Hollywood” podcast.
“I am dating someone,” she revealed to Kmetko. “I’m dating, actually, he’s a widow[er] and it’s really interesting.”
Cassidy reiterated later in her “Still Here Hollywood” podcast interview that the widower in question is Hamel, who was married to Three’s Company star Somers for 46 years before her death in October 2023 following a battle with breast cancer.

Who Is Joanna Cassidy?
Joanna Cassidy got her start in the entertainment industry as a model before landing a small role in Steve McQueen’s classic 1968 thriller Bullitt. She continued in the thriller genre with roles in The Laughing Policeman, The Late Show and Stunts throughout the 1970s.
The actress memorably played the snake-handling stripper Zhora Salome in the 1982 science fiction epic Blade Runner and earned a National Society of Film Critics Award nomination for portraying a journalist on the run in 1983’s Under Fire, which dramatized the Nicaraguan Revolution. She later received an Emmy Award nomination for her supporting role in Six Feet Under as troubled psychologist Margaret Chenowith.
Throughout her career, Cassidy was in both the original 1991 comedy Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead and its 2024 remake, the Disney classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit and actually costarred with Suzanne Somers in the 1985 TV adaptation of Jackie Collins’ Hollywood Wives.
Cassidy was previously married to Kennard C. Kobrin from 1964 to 1974 and they share two children.
What Has Joanna Cassidy Said About Dating Alan Hamel?
While Alan Hamel first revealed his romance with Joanna Cassidy in June 2025, the Blade Runner actress didn’t speak about the relationship prior to a February 2026 appearance on host Steve Kmetko’s “Still Here Hollywood” podcast.
“I didn’t date for a long time,” Cassidy told Kmetko. “I just, honestly, I don’t know, it just didn’t enter my life and Lord knows I’m out there.”
Cassidy initially only said that she was dating “this man I ran into a year ago” and mentioned that it was “going well.” Later in the interview, Cassidy explained that she’s usually “so private” about her relationships.
“Well, his name is Alan Hamel, who was married to Suzanne Somers for many years,” she then confirmed.
Kmetko asked Cassidy whether this new romance was “awkward” since she knew and worked with Somers.
“Not at all, not for me,” Cassidy insisted.
How Long Have Alan Hamel and Joanna Cassidy Known Each Other?
Alan Hamel went public with his new romance with Joanna Cassidy in June 2025.
“I have known Joanna Cassidy for over 45 years,” he told Page Six. “Joanna was a guest star on [his talk show] The Alan Hamel Show in Canada in the ’70s. She was a great guest and it was a dynamic show, and we liked each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect. Both of us were married at the time.”
Hamel remembered being “very cordial” with Cassidy on the set of Hollywood Wives but insisted there was no romantic spark until they met again after Suzanne Somers’ death.
“My son met Joanna at a screening and after a long conversation suggested to Joanna that she and me would get along and should meet. Stephen did not know we knew each other,” he revealed.
Hamel lavished praise on the “extremely accomplished” Cassidy while admitting he didn’t know “where this relationship [was] going.”

“I’m fortunate to have Joanna in my life. Most men would love to have a Joanna in their life,” he said.
Hamel and his late wife, Somers, were married for 46 years — and together for 55 total — before the Three’s Company star died in October 2023 at age 76 following a long battle with cancer. The Canadian TV host told Page Six in December 2024 that Somers encouraged him to find love again.
“Since Suzanne was my only date for over 50 years, I’m a virgin dater,” he explained. “Suzanne told me when we knew the end was near not to ‘mope around’ and live my life.”
Hamel kept his late wife’s memory alive by partnering with Realbotix Corp and Hollo.AI to create an AI clone of Somers in October 2025. The digital clone was trained on 27 of her books and hundreds of interviews.
“It was Suzanne. And I asked her a few questions and she answered them, and it blew me and everybody else away,” he beamed. “When you look at the finished one next to the real Suzanne, you can’t tell the difference. It’s amazing. And I mean, I’ve been with Suzanne for 55 years, so I know what her face looks like, and when I just look at the two of them side by side, I really can’t tell which one is the real and which one is the AI.”
