Jackie Tohn is sharing what she loves most about Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard.
“They really communicate. They taught me — when I was a crazy single person, I would come over and not be able to understand what went wrong, and I know America calls them ‘Mom and Dad.’ That’s my actual mom and dad,” Tohn, 45, joked exclusively to Us Weekly at the Actors Rising event presented by the Actor Awards and Elle at Castillo del Lago in Hollywood Hills, California, on Thursday, February 26.
Tohn — who stars in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This alongside Bell, also 45 — said the Veronica Mars actress and Shepard, 51, are “really good communicators, even if it’s not something you want to hear.”
“I think I’ve learned really a lot from them, just their love and their communication, honestly. I mean, they’re not my therapist, they’re not my real parents, they’re just good friends who are there for me,” she explained.

Tohn also praised Shepard as an “amazing” husband and dad to his and Bell’s daughters, Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 11.
Bell and Shepard tied the knot in October 2013 and celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary in October 2025. The Actor Awards host sparked backlash at the time for her tribute to Shepard.
“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you,’” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.’”
Many social media users called out Bell for referencing domestic violence, but others defended the post as an example of the actress’ sense of humor.
Bell limited her Instagram comments but did not publicly address the criticism.
Months later, Bell and Shepard made headlines again when a clip of Cher on Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast went viral. During the January episode, Cher, 79, implied that Bell could do better than Shepard.
“[You’re] definitely the better half [in the relationship],” the “Believe” singer told Bell, who was also present during the episode.
“The truth is, I trust her. So you must have something that I don’t see,” Cher said, adding that Shepard does seem like a “good dad.”
Shepard later addressed the viral clip at the 2026 Golden Globes, telling Access Hollywood that he and Bell thought Cher’s comments were “hysterical.”

Bell also praised Shepard in an interview with People earlier this week.
“There’s nothing that he won’t do to take care of me,” she told the outlet, gushing about her husband’s support ahead of the Actor Awards. “One thing that I love so much about being married to him is that he is never allergic to me shining more and more. He never gets insecure about it.”
Bell added that being married for over a decade is a “long time.”
“We put a lot of work into it and I’m very happy. We’re very supportive of each other and our marriage and our family,” she concluded.
