Over the course of its debut season, the series follows Lonnie’s chaotic comeback tour as it officially kicks into gear. Forced to start from scratch to re-qualify for the tour, he travels the country in a ramshackle tour bus he proud-talks about owning outright. Between grieving the sudden loss of his longtime caddie, navigating an unconventional partnership with a retail-parking-lot drifter turned bag-carrier, and dodging his furious ex-wife, Lonnie has his hands full. The stage is set for a golf season the PGA will never forget as he tries to repair his broken relationship with his rising-star golfer son.

Starring: Will Ferrell (Anchorman) leads the pack as the brash, loud-trousered Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins. He is joined by Jimmy Tatro (Home Economics) playing his estranged, rising-star golfer son, Lance, and the brilliant Molly Shannon (SNL) as Lonnie’s perpetually angry, foul-mouthed ex-wife, Stacy.

Guest Stars & Cameos: The series features a fantastic, bittersweet guest appearance by the legendary Keith David (Greenleaf), who brings instant gravitas as Lonnie’s longtime caddie, Old Henry. Fortune Feimster also makes a grand, hilarious entrance as Sam, a drifter who knows absolutely nothing about golf technique but perfectly matches Lonnie’s chaotic frequency. Keep your eyes peeled for fun cameos from real-life PGA Tour professionals, including Ben Griffin, who pop up to add a little authentic sports flavor to the madness.

Special Effects: While a golf comedy isn’t exactly a sci-fi blockbuster, the show delivers some surprisingly high-octane practical effects and stunt work. The standout sequence is a high-speed, careening tour bus chase in the premiere that feels like a comedic homage to Speed, throwing a massive vehicle around with genuine, kinetic energy. The golf cinematography itself looks crisp and sharp throughout the season, seamlessly blending real tournament backdrops with Ferrell’s hilariously exaggerated swing mechanics, though a few green-screened driving range shots look a bit rubbery.

If you love classic, unfiltered Will Ferrell screaming in garish polyester pants, this entire season is a total comfort-food blast. It leans heavily into that nostalgic, mid-2000s Frat Pack energy, utilizing familiar sports-comedy tropes while keeping a genuinely positive, feel-good undercurrent about second chances. On the positive side, the chemistry between Ferrell and Fortune Feimster is gold from the jump, and the pacing keeps you locked in.

On the flip side, the writing occasionally trips into over-the-top vulgarity, and Lonnie’s complete lack of a moral filter, (like casually stealing a watch from a deceased friend’s wrist in the very first episode) makes him a pretty tough guy to root for initially. The green-screen effects on some of the broader course backgrounds can look a bit cheap and distracting. It doesn’t quite have the sharp, satirical bite of Talladega Nights, but it’s an incredibly fun, easy binge-watch that will definitely keep you laughing.

Together, they hit the road in Lonnie’s prized, albeit falling-apart, tour bus.

As Lonnie grinds his way through lower-tier qualifiers, the heart of the series shifts to his fractured family. His estranged son, Lance, is a rising, straight-laced superstar on the PGA Tour who is deeply embarrassed by his father’s loud, attention-seeking antics. Guided by Sam’s bizarre but oddly effective motivational tactics, Lonnie slowly learns to look past his own massive ego. He spends the season trying to win back the respect of his son and survive the wrath of his fiery ex-wife, Stacy. By the time Lonnie finally qualifies for the big tournament, his golf game is still chaotic, but his relationship with Lance begins to heal, setting up a high-stakes family showdown on the green.
