Will Friedle can never escape his iconic Boy Meets World catchphrase — even when he’s landed himself in the hospital for filling up “a glass with blood.”
“For some reason on this day in that hospital, I was more famous than I’ve ever been in my life,” Friedle, 50, recently joked on his “Pod Meets World” podcast, per Entertainment Weekly.
Friedle shared a gruesome story about some recent health woes with podcast cohosts Rider Strong and Danielle Fishel, revealing he spent Saturday, October 3, in the hospital due to some alarming symptoms.
The day apparently started off on the wrong foot when Friedle “woke up badly peeing blood,” forcing him to rush to the bathroom in a panic.

“You just think you’re going to the bathroom and then you’re like, ‘Oh my God, something inside me is horribly broken,’” he explained.
Friedle’s wife, Susan Martens, immediately recognized that something was seriously wrong when the color drained from the actor’s face.
“She looks at me and she could tell she’s like, ‘You had no color in your face,” Friedle said. “I was like, ‘Well, because I just peed it all away… I need to go to the hospital.’”
The hospital was crowded enough that Friedle had to lie on a stretcher in a hallway until a room finally opened up. Before long, doctors diagnosed Friedle with a kidney stone — one small enough that he could pass it without having to undergo a procedure.
During Friedle’s hospitalization, one nurse took her chance to imitate his Boy Meets World character Eric Matthews’ classic shout-out to school principal Mr. Feeny.
“[The nurse] goes, ‘So you have a copay. It’s not much because your insurance is going to pay most of it. Blessed to have some good insurance. So here you go,’” Friedle relayed. “‘And oh, you want to put it on a credit card?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure.’ I reach over and I hand her the credit card… and then she looks at me [and] she goes, ‘Feenay. Fee-hee-nay.’”
Friedle recalled thinking at the time, “Just filled up a glass with blood, but thank you!”
Doctors prescribed OxyContin to help Friedle through the process of naturally passing his kidney stone, though he ultimately decided he is “not going to take” the powerful painkiller.
“I’m going to do my best to not go anywhere near that stuff. Too many horror stories,” he pointed out to podcast listeners.
