Kellie Pickler Reportedly Settles Legal Case With Late Husband’s Parents

Kellie Pickler has reportedly reached an undisclosed settlement with her late husband Kyle Jacobs‘ parents after a multiyear legal battle over possession of his personal items.

Pickler, 40, and Kyle’s parents, Reed and Sharon Jacobs, have reportedly “fully resolved all claims, disputes, and requests for relief by and between them,” per court documents obtained by People on Wednesday, November 4. The motion stipulated that both sides were “satisfied with the distribution of assets” and with the current state of Kyle’s estate.

The reported settlement concludes more than two years of legal wrangling over who has legal ownership over Kyle’s personal property following his death in February 2023. (The Jacobses are coadministrators of Kyle’s estate.)

Us has reached out to representatives for both sides for comment.

A May 2023 medical examiner’s report determined that Jacobs died by suicide at age 49, with a toxicology investigation determining that there were no drugs in his system at the time of his passing. (He was found dead by local police officers in the couple’s Nashville home .)

In 2024, Pickler took legal action against Reed and Sharon, alleging that her late spouse’s parents made a “List of Assets” and demanded she turn them over via subpoena, according to a petition obtained by Us. (Among the items Kyle’s parents requested were his gun collection, watches and jewelry, baseball cards, musical instruments and any personal devices.)

“A dispute has arisen amongst the parties regarding certain personal property allegedly [in Kyle’s] possession prior to his death,” Pickler’s attorneys claimed in their original court paperwork.

Her lawyers argued that the ownership of certain items that Kyle’s parents requested was in dispute. Pickler also accused her in-laws of allegedly taking certain items out of her home without permission.

“As part of this action, Ms. Pickler seeks an order requiring the coadministrators to identify the items that they obtained from her home,” her petition read.

Reed and Sharon denied a litany of Pickler’s allegations, explaining in their own November 2024 court filing that they’d entered her home “at the express invitation of [their daughter-in-law] and her counsel whom they met to discuss the transfer of items belonging to the estate.”

Kyle’s parents asked that a court dismiss Pickler’s lawsuit on the grounds that they were following stipulations laid out in a prenuptial agreement that the singer and Jacobs signed when they got married in 2011.

Pickler was ultimately granted a protective order that blocked either party from sharing any transcript or video evidence from court proceedings to avoid any “annoyance, embarrassment, oppression or undue burden or expense.”

Following Kyle’s death in February 2023, Pickler largely stayed out of the spotlight for more than a year, aside from releasing a brief tribute acknowledging her grief.

“One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still.’ I have chosen to heed his advice,” she said in an August 2023 statement. “Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way. It has truly touched my soul and it’s helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers.”

Pickler returned to the stage in April 2024 as part of a tribute event for the late Patsy Cline at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. During her introduction for the song “The Woman I Am,” Pickler acknowledged the loss of her spouse.

“My husband and I actually wrote this song together, gosh, over a decade ago,” she told the Nashville crowd. “The last time I was here in the Ryman Auditorium was with him on a date night, and I know he is here with us tonight.”

She added, “Thank y’all so much for having me. I’m going to do the best I can.”

Pickler and Jacobs started dating in 2008 and tied the knot three years later. They were still together at the time of Jacobs’s death.
