Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton played a married couple in the 2019 revival of the play Betrayal — and a real-life romance quickly blossomed between the two.
Though the couple have been effusive about one another’s talent and work, Hiddleston once detailed how his whirlwind romance with Taylor Swift in 2016 taught him to be more protective over his relationships.
“Everyone is entitled to a private life,” the Loki star told The Telegraph in March 2017. “I love what I do and I dedicate myself with absolute commitment to making great art and great entertainment, and in my mind I don’t conflict the two. My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life. And those two things are separate.”
Hiddleston and Ashton debuted their relationship at the Tony Awards in September 2021. One year later in March 2022, they stepped out at the BAFTA Awards where Ashton appeared to wear a diamond ring. Us Weekly confirmed their engagement several days later.

Hiddleston and Ashton met while starring in a revival of Harold Pinter’s play Betrayal alongside Charlie Cox. The trio also moved to New York City when the production was transferred to Broadway.

The pair first sparked dating rumors when they were spotted together at the U.S. Open. The Sun reported at the time that the I Saw the Light star had been dating Ashton since February 2019, and that he had fallen for her in “a big way.”
September 2021
Ashton and Hiddleston made their red carpet debut at the 2021 Tony Awards, where he was nominated for Best Leading Actor in the Play. Betrayal was also up for Best Revival of a Play but the show didn’t take home any awards that night.

Nearly one year after Deadline reported that Ashton had been cast as the main villain in Captain Marvel 2, the playwright posed with MCU star — and Hiddleston’s Avengers: Endgame costar — Brie Larson. “Marvel fans, start your theories,” the Oscar winner wrote via Instagram at the time.

The duo attended the BAFTAs together, holding hands and gazing at one another on the red carpet. In some of the photos, an oval-shaped diamond ring was spotted on Ashton’s ring finger, although it was often obscured by the playwright’s voluminous pink gown.

A source exclusively told Us Weekly that the two secretly welcomed their first child together. “Tom and Zawe are loving being new parents and are filled with joy,” the insider explained. “They have been having the struggles of new parents and aren’t sleeping much but are thrilled.”

The Loki season 2 finale dropped on Disney+ one day before The Marvels hit theaters. When asked if the TV show was connected to the film, Hiddleston couldn’t help but gush about his fiancée. “My other half is in The Marvels and I’m very proud of her,” he said while on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Though she did not attend the 2024 People’s Choice Awards, Hiddleston had to give his love a shout-out when he accepted the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show of the Year award for Loki. “Zawe, none of this makes sense without you,” Hiddleston said. “Thank you for your love and support every step of the way.”

Ashton confirmed on June 7 that she is pregnant with the couple’s second baby, debuting her bump at the SXSW London festival in an Emilia Wickstead gown.
“I feel really lucky to be working with someone that I know and who’s been such a champion of me at this sensitive red-carpet dressing moment,” Ashton told Vogue. “I feel like I’ll be very held on an evening where, as an expectant mother, you can feel a little bit exposed.”
